Marty Staab
-
55 years ago a bicycle and a library card gave me access to fly tying instruction in old books with black and white illustrations. I think I tied for 10 years before I ever actually saw another human tie a fly, and so every trick or technique I figured out was a little victory to tuck away. I remember all the silly mistakes as well, and believe that every wrap of thread, whether expertly done or in error, makes one a better tyer. By now I’ve generated enough empty thread spools to claim to be competent, and I have so much fun at this I can fool most of the people, most of the time. SEE Marty’s Bench, my YouTube channel which features both my skills and my shortcomings.
