Greenback Stocking at William's Gulch

We had a successful day at William's Gulch Friday, September 15th, stocking 10,000 "age zero" fish. This was the second year that we've done this up there.

I'd like to thank all of the RMF volunteers who came out in support of the effort, as well as our partners from CPW and USFS who contributed toward that goal. A couple of volunteers came as a result of an email announcement from BHA (at our request).

Bryan Johnson, who manages the Mt. Shavano hatchery in Salida, started his day around 3 AM in order to bag and transport the fish up here.

There is a picture of the insulated bags used to pack these fish into their new home. The really old, gray "flight bag" is from the 1950's, the one on the right is from the 1970's, and the one in the middle is one of the brand new bags that RMF sponsored (along with CPW). The new bags were made by Chris Freeman, owner of Emerger Fly Fishing right here in Fort Collins. Unfortunately, the Emerger Fly Fishing logo gets obscured when the bags are folded closed at the top (dry bag style).

The fish were packed in by volunteers anywhere from 1 to 2.5 miles before being released into the upper reaches of William's Gulch.

Thanks to all that helped make this happen!
