Rocky Mountain Flycasters (RMF) will hold a Stream Monitoring Workshop from 1-4 PM June 10, 2023 at the Innosphere located at 320 E Vine Dr, Fort Collins, CO 80524. The Workshop Program will include speakers from RMF, the US Forest Service, the Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed, and more.
At the Stream Monitoring Workshop you will learn about the conservation basis and methods for stream monitoring from RMF volunteers and our Forest Service partners. Workshop attendees will learn how to install stream monitoring equipment, how to retrieve data, and how to report their findings using electronic records on the rmftu.org cloud workspace. We encourage both experienced prior stream monitoring volunteers as well as new participants to attend the June 10 Workshop as we have recently updated our protocols and equipment.
Rocky Mountain Flycasters has conducted stream temperature monitoring in the Poudre River watershed in support of native trout restoration in conjunction with the US Forest Service since 2018. In 2022, we added a water quality monitoring pilot project. The photo above shows RMF volunteer Roger Slocomb on May 3, 2023 as he inspects, cleans and reinstalls the water quality sensor probe at the Bennett Creek pilot installation site. In 2023 we are expanding the water quality monitoring project to a second location at Phantom Canyon Preserve in cooperation with our partner The Nature Conservancy.
