RMF Casting Club
Tuesday, July 25th, Fossil Creek Park at 6:00 PM
Hopefully you’ve heard we are trying to get our Casting Club up and running. Thanks to Bob Molzahn and Dave Handshue, and the FTC Parks Department, casting rings or targets were placed in Porter Reservoir at Fossil Creek Park on July 13th. The targets are in the far southeast end of the lake (see map).
The casting area is open to the public, and the idea is for interested chapter members to gather on Tuesday evenings at 6pm (all summer into Sep and maybe Oct) to have fun practicing your casting. Bob will also be there to help us learn about casting competition rules for anyone interested. If we have some interested members, we hope to hold a casting competition in late Aug or early September. This might include reserving a pavilion and burning some burgers and brats. With lots of participants, this could be good fun!
If families come out, the park has a huge grass field for kicking a soccer ball, or fly or spin-casting. There is also a playground and skate park on site.
Sunset is currently 8:30 pm so we can start at 6:00 pm - Tuesday, July 25th. You can also go there by yourself at anytime during daylight hours. Just be sure to use a high floating fly and cut the hook off at the bend so you don’t snag the targets. Using a stout 7.5’ leader also helps your accuracy.
Besides your casting rod you may want a light portable chair and bug repellent. Bob will bring some casting plugs and flies - but in the future members should bring their own casting plugs and flies which are available on the ACA website, Walmart, Cabelas, Jax, etc. But again, any high floating fly with no hook will suffice.
If interested, please email Bob at molzahn5@comcast.net, and Mark at outreach@rmftu.org
