Chapter Fishing Trip - Sunday July 16

Dave Morse is organizing a RMFTU fishing trip to Long Draw Reservoir, located 2 hours west of Fort Collins on Sunday, July 16th.

This large reservoir is loaded with Cutthroat Trout that readily take dry flies. The lake is best fished from a float tube or pontoon that can be launched from a variety of locations. Casting from shore is also productive.

Flies: Favorites are dry flies like a #14 or 16 Hippy Stomper or #14 Stimulator. These can be fished alone or with a nymph dropper such as a #16 Red Copper John or #14 Prince Nymph.

Schedule: Drive on your own schedule or meet a group of us at the NW corner of the King Soopers' parking lot in northern Fort Collins (north of Jax). We will depart at 6:00 AM for the 2 hour+ drive up Poudre Canyon to Long Draw Road then take the 10-mile dirt road to the lake. We will fish until your arms ache or we are driven off the lake by afternoon wind or storms.

Bring your lunch, water, an extra warm layer just in case, rain gear, 4 or 5 wt rods with floating line, float tubes, a camera, etc. 4x tippet works just fine.

Please email Dave Morse using the link below to let him know if you will drive on your own or want to meet at the King Soopers' parking lot to carpool.

PS: Dave is in Canada until July 13th, so you may not hear from him until July 14 or 15. Everyone is welcome – no limit on numbers of people.
